Life imitating art for the original star of Billy Elliot the Musical

As many of you will already know, the story of Billy Elliot follows a young boy from a mining village who discovers a deep passion and immense talent for dance and was first told through the multi-award winning film released in 2000. In the final, powerful scene of the film, an adult Billy takes to the stage in Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake watched on by his father and childhood best friend.

Liam Mower, one of the three boys who originated the role of Billy in the musical based on the film, has himself been casted in Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake. Liam, now 21, was the first boy ever to perform the role of Billy Elliot on stage when the show opened in 2005, and went on to win an Olivier award for his performance along with his two co-stars, James Lomas and George Maguire.

We would like to congratulate Liam and wish him every success in his new role. Why not wish Liam good luck on our official Facebook and Twitter pages.
